Idli
Idli is a typical south Indian savory cake, although it can be found across India. These Steamed Rice cakes are classic and traditional for breakfast in many South Indian households. Idly is one of the healthiest protein breakfasts of south India. And idli is a savory cake that is popular throughout India and neighboring countries like Sri Lanka.
1. Soaking rice and urad dal in separate bowls for 4~6 hours.
2. Grinding rice and urad dal respectively. This is best done with a wet grinding machine (commercial wet grinder).
3. Mixing the ground rice and urad dal together.
4. Putting aside in a warm place to ferment for 8 hours.
5. Add salt.
6. Moistening oil on the idli steamer plates.
7. Spooning the batter into the steamer plates.
8. Setting the idli steamer into a heated pot with water in the bottom for steaming. And steam the batter for 5-10 minutes.
9. Removing the idlis from the steamer and eat with Chutney, or Sambhar.
